Nestled in the heart of the Flint Hills of Kansas with the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve as next door neighbors, we have created an exclusive recreational experience for the discerning person who wants to participate in ranch life, rather than observe it.  Located conveniently one mile off Highway 50, we offer guests the opportunity to experience the Tall Grass Prairie on a working cattle ranch.

Located only 65 miles South of Manhattan, the Tallgrass Prairie Lodge is a perfect gathering place before heading up to the K-State games.  It is also an excellent place for families to get away alone together.

To enhance the experience you will be accommodated exclusively in a spacious, airy home with Central Heat and Air, sleeping for 6, a furnished kitchen, patio, front porch, hot tub, fire ring, horse shoe pit and BBQ grill.

About Tallgrass Prairie Lodge, LLC

Horse accommodations available on site makes bringing your own horse possible.   Guests can explore over 1500 acres of privately owned prairie that is operating as a working cattle ranch. Other opportunities include pond fishing, hiking, cattle drives, cattle counting, bull runs and the opportunity to experience the annual Prairie Renewal during the burning season.

As a working cattle ranch we have Registered Red Angus cows and manage a small finishing lot. We recognize that there are recreational potential and educational opportunities for those wishing to privately participate in genuine ranch life. We wish to share the resources and experiences that occur naturally on our ranch seasonally and daily.

If horses are not your interest, you can still enjoy hiking, photography, wildflower and wildlife observation.  In addition, catch and release fishing is a popular option.  Located just 10 minutes from historical Cottonwood Falls, you can enjoy quaint shops, tour the oldest courthouse still in use west of the Mississippi, and enjoy 4 star dining at The Grand Central Hotel.

During certain times of the year, you will have an opportunity to stay in the Tall Grass Prairie Lodge and enjoy special events in Chase County.  Those include:

The Rodeo - a PRCA sanctioned event, held the first full weekend of each June.

Wildflower Tour - an educational and exciting opportunity to learn more about the ecosystem of the Flint Hills.  In addition, you get to tour on private property to learn the identity of many grasses and flowers.

Ranch Rodeo - more local participation then the Flint Hills Rodeo, but very exciting as real cowboys compete using skills they use daily in their work in the pastures of Chase County and surrounding areas.

Bull Runs - Bulls must be driven to their pastures each Spring.  You will have the opportunity to participate in one or several of these.  They can be as short as 1 mile and as long as 3.  Along the way, you will have photo opportunities and a view that will take your breath away.  Bulls go out in May and come back in July and August.

Annual Prairie Renewal - modern ranchers must mimic the renewal of the prairie each year with annual burning.  The purpose is to keep the beautiful prairie free of brush, weeds and to insure the safety of the people and structures.  Burning happens early each spring and must be scheduled around the wind and other conditions.

Cattle Drives - each Fall cattle must be gathered from pastures and hauled home to be sold or moved to winter grazing.  You can participate in drives in pastures ranging from 125 acres to 900 acres.  You need to call ahead if you would like to participate in one or more of these.  They have to be scheduled around trucking and the veterinarian.
